All about Galanthus!

Christine explains about snowdrop varieties

A decent crowd turned out to listen to Christine Burgess expound the virtues of Snowdrops. I think most of us were converted into Galanthophiles, but not the kind who apparently will pay hundreds of pounds for a prize bulb!

We discovered that there are more than 20 species and several hundred cultivars, with considerable variation in height, flower size and shape, and in the extent and pattern of green or yellow markings. Christine explained that many cultivars are really quite easy to grow in any garden.

As usual, the talk was followed by a fine spread of finger food and generous raffle prizes.

Many of us left inspired by Christine’s obvious enthusiasm for these ‘Fair Maids of February’, with the clear intent of planting more snowdrops for next Spring’s display!
