Events programme for 2020

Epping Horticultural Society is pleased to announce our programme of events for 2020 – stimulating talks, trips to wonderful gardens. social events and of course our Annual Show. See the summary below, and for more information, view our Events page.

18th March – Talk on Environmentally Friendly Gardening

Victoria Robertson tells us how to be more eco-aware when we garden.

25th April – Trip to RHS Wisley

We’re assured of a great day at this beautiful RHS garden. It has been relaid in several areas and is a delight to behold.

16th May – Plant Swap Afternoon

Come along to Pelly Court and bring your  spare plants. Donate these to the swap table and pick what you’d like to take in return.

17th June – Annual General Meeting

Come along to our AGM and support your Society! Please also bring your best single stem rose for the Rose Competition.

15th July – A Walk in the French Alps

Jon Hill gives an inspiring illustrated talk on his walk over the French Alps to raise funds for the charity The Red Rubber Ball Foundation.

29th August – The Society’s Annual Show

Our Annual Horticultural Show will again take place at St John’s Church. The full list of classes and the show theme will be announced in due course.

19th September – trip to Barnsdale Gardens

Barnsdale Gardens was created by Geoff Hamilton and featured for several years on the BBC’s Gardeners’ World. There are 38 individual gardens spread across eight acres, all managed organically, as well as a plant shop and excellent tea rooms. We are assured of a fascinating day out!

21st October – Animal Magic

The Paradise Wildlife Park is an animal conservation centre in Hertfordshire working on preserving endangered species. Maggie Radcliffe will talk about the work of the Park.

Xmas Social Raffle

21st November – Christmas Social Event

An afternoon quiz with light refreshments and fun.

17th March 2021 – The Wonders of Norway

Joanne Larner offers a chance to visit this beautiful country without leaving the warmth of Pelly Court!

Gardeners may also be interested in the following taking place around Epping during 2020.

31st May – Epping Open Gardens Once again many brave gardeners are exposing their efforts to public scrutiny! This year there will also be some open allotments at Meadow Road.

6th-7th June – Epping in Bloom Scarecrow Festival Join the Scarecrow Festival this year – just create a scarecrow and put it in your garden for visitors to find on the maps provided.

5th July – Epping Town Show EHS will be running a stall at the annual Epping Town Show. Expect to find plants for sale and other gardening goods. Come and visit us!

8th November – Remembrance Sunday Laying of wreaths at Epping War Memorial to remember those who sacrificed themselves for our country.
